The United States has become a new chapter for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Departing from the royal family years ago, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex found themselves utterly astonished by the aftermath. Their shocking interview with Oprah and Harry’s book, «Spare,» saw them launching numerous accusations and personal attacks against the royal family, including claims regarding discussions about Archie’s skin tone before his birth.
Undoubtedly, the relationship between the royals and the Sussexes is at its lowest point. Although Harry attended King Charles’s coronation, little seems to have changed between him and William, for instance. Amidst all this, it’s claimed that Charles went out of his way to support Meghan, being the only royal to reach out to her and Harry after the Oprah interview.
Sadly, Meghan revealed she had contemplated suicide while a working member of the royal family, and Charles wrote her a letter about it. However, Meghan was unsatisfied with the then-Prince’s response, and rumors suggested it had a significant impact on a crucial decision.
The story of Harry and Meghan is extensive. After meeting at a tennis tournament in London in 2016, the couple began dating, and love quickly blossomed. However, some of Meghan’s friends had doubts about her happiness with him even before they tied the knot.
Meghan revealed in a 2019 ITV interview that some friends even advised her against marrying Harry due to the impending media scrutiny she would face.
«It’s complicated. In my opinion, nobody could understand it. To be honest, I was ignorant about it, which makes understanding difficult, but when I first met Harry, my friends in the United States were thrilled because I was happy,» Meghan said.
Though they agreed he was attractive, my British friends advised against the relationship, stating, «British tabloids will ruin your life.» As an American, I really stupidly failed to understand it. It’s not easy.
«I never thought this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair, and that’s the really hard part to reconcile,» the duchess continued. She went on to say, «I’ve been telling H, that’s what I call Harry, for a long time that just surviving is not enough. That’s not the purpose of existence. You must thrive and have happiness.
«I made a sincere effort to embrace the ‘stiff upper lip’ British sensibility. I really tried, I swear. However, I think it causes a lot of internal damage,» she continued.
Harry and Meghan tied the knot in a lavish wedding at St. George’s Chapel on May 19, 2018.
At that time, it was evident that Meghan had been accepted by the royal family, especially by King Charles, who showed such generosity towards the Duchess during the event despite her father not being invited.
Meghan was escorted by King Charles down the aisle during her wedding.
Royal biographer Robert Hardman claims that Charles asked Meghan if she wanted him to walk her down the aisle. Hardman stated in «Queen of Our Times: The Life of Elizabeth II» that Charles received a quick response, but not the one he had anticipated.
Meghan actually caught the now King by surprise when she asked to meet him halfway down the aisle. She wanted to walk into the chapel alone and make her grand entrance.
The Prince of Wales offered to step in, expressing his fondness for his future daughter-in-law and stating that it would be a pleasure to accompany Meghan to the altar and down the aisle of St. George’s Chapel. An acquaintance said he wasn’t quite prepared for the response, which was, «Can we meet halfway?» Hardman wrote.
«This showed that the woman making the grand entrance wasn’t a shy bride, but rather a confident and self-sufficient individual.»
In the 2018 BBC documentary «Prince, Son, and Heir,» Harry mentioned his father’s willingness to accompany his wife on their wedding day. Initially, Harry claimed to have approached his father about it, and Charles immediately gave his approval.
